Alzheimer's Disease

Cannabis has shown promise in potentially alleviating symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease. The compounds found in cannabis, particularly tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), exhibit neuroprotective properties that may aid in managing certain aspects of the disease. THC, known for its psychoactive effects, has been studied for its ability to reduce the formation of amyloid plaques in the brain, a hallmark characteristic of Alzheimer's. Additionally, CBD, a non-psychoactive component, demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, potentially mitigating neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, which are implicated in the progression of Alzheimer's. Some studies suggest that cannabis could help manage behavioral symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, and sleep disturbances in Alzheimer's patients, improving their overall quality of life. However, further comprehensive research is essential to understand the long-term effects, dosages, and potential risks associated with using cannabis as a therapeutic option for Alzheimer's disease.
